This Summer, I was appointed to be the education director for AIGA Portland. This is an exciting role with a great history that I hope to explore and expand on over the next few years.
In particular, I plan to use this role on the AIGA Portland board to create opportunities for collaboration between college students (through events, partnerships, reviews, and other opportunities) and also expand the notion of education from a college-centric idea (which the role has historically been fixed on) to something that serves all designers regardless of their perspectives.
Two particular initiatives I am looking forward to taking up are The Mix—a yearly portfolio that connects entry level designers and graduates with seasoned professionals—and Career Tools, which I plan gather a team around and relaunch as both a website and active workshop series aimed at those launching, transitioning, or growing their careers.
I love Portland, design, and education, so the role is an absolute fit. I look forward to finding ways to do good and offer back to the community that has already invested in me in my few short years as part of it.
